Robert E. Lenehan, a retired principal in the Malden public schools, died Friday at his
Malden home. He was 72.

Mr. Lenehan was a lifelong resident of Malden. He graduated from Malden High
School in 1947 and from Suffolk University in 1956 with a degree in education.
Mr. Lenehan worked for the Malden School Department for 34 years. He retired as
principal of Lincoln Elementary and Junior High School, where he worked for 19
years.

He was a member and past president of the Malden Irish-American Association and a
member of the Malden Knights of Columbus and the Government Center Commission.
Also, he was a member of Malden's Housing Authority and Planning Board, the
Teachers' Credit Union, and City Democrat Committee.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He leaves his wife, Anne (Sullivan) Lenehan; four sons, Robert E. Jr. of Whitman,
Edward T. of Shrewsbury, and Daniel P. and John F., both of Melrose; two daughters,
Mary A. Doucette of Somerville and Peggy M. Hagopian of Natick; a sister, Doris
Zagorites of Tewksbury; three brothers, William of Wakefield, James of Everett, and
Francis of Lynn; and 12 grandchildren.
